How to Use Fabric Foil Adhesive
How to Use Fabric Foil Adhesive ✨
Add a little shimmer and shine to your creations with fabric foil adhesive! Whether you’re customizing apparel, crafting handmade gifts, or adding metallic details to your designs, fabric foil is a beautiful way to make your projects stand out.
What You’ll Need
-
Fabric Foil Adhesive
-
Fabric foil sheets
-
Your fabric or project surface
-
Paintbrush, sponge, or applicator
-
Heat press or household iron
-
Parchment paper or protective sheet
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare Your Surface
Make sure your fabric is clean, dry, and wrinkle-free before applying adhesive. Cotton and cotton blends typically work best.
2. Apply the Adhesive
Using a brush, sponge, or applicator, apply a thin, even layer of fabric foil adhesive wherever you want the foil design to appear.
Tip: Stencils work wonderfully for creating crisp designs and lettering.
3. Let the Adhesive Dry
Allow the adhesive to dry until it becomes tacky. Drying time may vary depending on the thickness of application and room conditions, but it is typically around 10–20 minutes.
The adhesive should feel sticky to the touch without transferring onto your finger.
4. Place the Foil
Lay the foil sheet shiny side up over the adhesive area.
Gently smooth it down to remove any air bubbles.
5. Apply Heat
Using a heat press or iron on medium heat (without steam), press firmly for 10–15 seconds.
If using an iron:
-
Use even pressure
-
Avoid moving the iron back and forth
-
Place parchment paper between the iron and foil for protection
6. Cool & Peel
Allow the foil to cool slightly before peeling away the sheet slowly.
Your metallic design should now be beautifully transferred onto the fabric!
